Reflections of Fate Within the Firmament - Chapter 1 - slicedanddiced - 原神 (2024)

Chapter Text

The first thing Aether is able to process is a blinding light from behind his eyelids. The young traveler groans before turning over onto his side, attempting to shield himself from the light that was trying to sear into his eyelids.

“-aveler! Traveler!” A whiny voice calls out, too close for comfort. The young man lazily flicks his hand in dismissal.

“Five more minutes…” He mumbles, shielding his eyes with his arm. The whiny voice starts up again, albeit this time with more force, as he feels tiny hands swat at his side. This works, getting him to open his eyes (albeit hesitantly), and take in his surroundings.

Wow, this is not the beach. He thought as his mind slowly went back into focus. He is once again brought out of his thoughts by his companion, and closest friend, Paimon.

“Traveler, finally you’re up, you lazybones! Where are we?!” She cried, fluttering around him nervously. The aforementioned Traveler rubbed his forehead in confusion.

“I… I don’t know.” He said, his brow furrowed. Paimon cried out in frustration and fear, however, before the young pixie could get another word out, the pair heard voices in the distance that were only getting closer.

The young blonde pushed Paimon behind him, instinctively getting ready to brandish his sword before-

Huh? My sword, I can’t- His thoughts were once again abruptly cut off as a group of two people came into view.

“Here’s another!” A tall young woman with blue hair called out to someone behind her. Aether assumed a defensive stance, looking warily towards the woman and her brown haired friend, clad with red bunny ears.

“Hello there! You guys are stuck here too?” The brown-haired girl called out with a friendly voice, noticing the blonde’s defensive stance.

“I- uh…” Was all Aether could manage to reply in his dumbfounded state. Gladly his companion stepped in, with all the bumbling grace she could manage in her tiny form.

“Yeah! Do you guys have any idea where we are?” She questioned, peeking out from behind Aether.

At this, the brown-haired girl clad in red looked sheepish, while her friend simply stared ahead at the two, her gaze calculating and sharp. The brown-haired girl finally spoke, and though she seemed slightly suspicious, she was much more friendly. “W-well no.. But we can lead you to the others!”

Aether and Paimon looked at each other for a moment, seemingly communicating in an unspoken language before replying. “That would be great, thank you.”

The blue-haired girl looked a little less than pleased, however Aether couldn’t tell if that was just how she was normally, or if she was simply suspicious of him. Perhaps it was both. Despite this, the group of four set off, leading them back to a grand room filled with seats and tables, along with a large black glass rectangle at the front.

Aether noted that there seemed to be five main groups separated within the room, chatting amongst themselves. He didn’t recognize any of these people, but that wasn’t unusual, considering he wasn’t from this world in the first place.

“We found some others!” The brown-haired girl called out to her group. They turned their heads, which then caused people from the other groups to follow suit. Eventually, all attention was placed on Aether, which made him very uncomfortable.

It seemed like nobody knew what to say at first. Before the more lively people of the room could reply, a bright light flashed, momentarily blinding everyone, before a glowing star descended. Gasps of shock and confusion were heard around the room, and various people started talking over each other. Those with sensitive ears winced, beginning to try and block it out.

”SILENCE!” A loud and booming voice called out, which effectively silenced the crowd.

“Wow! That felt pretty good, haha!” The disembodied voice continued, albeit in a much calmer tone. Everyone was too shocked to say anything, so the voice continued.

“Did I scare you guys to death or something? Haha… sorry, bad joke.” Some of the crowd were still too shocked to reply, while others adopted slightly unimpressed looks, with the exception of a certain funeral parlour director, who seemed positively delighted with the joke.

“Um… Anyways, welcome everyone!” The voice called out. This seemed to usher everyone back into their previous chaos. Calls of outrage and confusion were ripe amongst the crowd, as they asked for answers.

“Excuse me! I’m still speaking.” The voice called out indignantly. At this, a tall silver-haired man spoke up.

“And who exactly are you?” He said, his voice loud and clear, but evidently, unimpressed.

“I’m so glad you asked! I’m the creator of this liminal space! But um… You guys can just call me, The Writer! Or The Author, whichever tickles your fancy.” The voice giggled. This only seemed to spark more confusion and questions.

“Okay.. Okay, I know you guys have a lot of questions, and I have answers for them! Well, most of them at least.” The voice continued, her tone turning somewhat sheepish towards the end. “But, I digress. To put it simply, you fine people are here to experience and view the events of the past, present, and future.”

This did not seem to quell the crowd, but before they could get too rowdy, the voice started up once more. “I know this is all really confusing and likely distressing for everyone, so that is why I will be offering everyone a way out!”

The crowd looked at each other, slightly dumbfounded by this response. “You know, if you don’t want to stay, I won’t make you. You’re all free to do as you please, in the name of ethics and such. You can leave this place any time you please. However, should you choose to do so, your memories of your time here will be wiped, and thus, you will not get to experience the aforementioned events of the past, present, and future.” The voice explained casually as if it were describing something mundane, such as the weather.

The crowd discussed amongst themselves for a couple of minutes. Once things quieted down, the voice spoke again. “Ready? Okay! Time for some preliminary introductions, some icebreakers if you will!” The star seemed to shine and twinkle at this.

“I will be having everyone introduce themselves. You know, your name, what you do, don’t bother with your country, I’ll introduce that.” The voice explained with cheer. “Alright, Mondstadters, you guys are up!”

Aether followed as the sea of heads turned to a certain group, containing that same brown and blue-haired duo he had met earlier. Those who were in said group immediately looked towards a certain tall blonde-haired woman.

She stepped forward, her back straight and her hands clasped behind her back as she spoke firmly. “Hello everyone, my name is Jean, the Acting Grand Master of the Knights of Favonius.”

Next up, a man with dark blue hair and an eyepatch stepped forward elegantly, his lips turned upwards in a flirty smile. “Kaeya, the Cavalry Captain and Quartermaster of the Knights of Favonius.”

A tall woman with almond-brown hair stepped forward next. “Hello darlings, my name is Lisa, the librarian of the Knights of Favonius.” In the background, a young man’s dog ears flattened to his head, he seemed to be reminded of something, or perhaps someone.

The blue-haired woman from earlier moved in. “Captain Eula Lawrence, Spindrift Knight, Knights of Favonius Reconnaissance Company.” She spoke politely, yet curtly.

“I am Albedo, the Chief Alchemist of the Knights of Favonius.” A blonde-haired man with unusual teal eyes spoke.

Next, it was the brown-haired girl’s turn. “Outrider Amber reporting for-” The girl stopped herself, cheeks flushing in embarrassment as she cleared her throat. “Sorry, habit.” In the distance, a certain green-haired girl perked up in excitement.

“I am Astrologist Mona Megistus, meaning The Great Astrologist Mona!” A girl with dark twin tails spoke, her voice haughty as she addressed the others.

“Diluc Ragnvindr of the Dawn Winery.” A man with fiery red hair spoke curtly. He was more preoccupied with scanning his surroundings, seemingly assessing the potential danger.

A girl with an unusually fancy outfit stepped forward next. “I am Fischl, the Prinzessin der Verurteilung. Fortuitous it is, such that we have been brought together through an unexpected fate! It is my pleasure to grace you commoners with my royal and regal presence.” She spoke, emphasizing her words with a flip of her blonde hair. Beside her, a dark purple raven perched on her shoulder spoke up next. “She means to say, ‘Nice to meet you.’” The girl gave him an affronted expression, before she spoke once more. “This is my retainer and familiar, Ozvaldo Hrafnavins!” The raven spoke up some more. “Just Oz is quite alright.”

After a couple of odd glances towards the previous pair, a boy with two twin braids stepped forward to speak. “The name’s Venti, the greatest bard in Mondstadt!” He said, his voice melodic, yet cheerful. A tall man with brown and gold hair stared at him for a moment with narrowed eyes.

“Amazing introductions! Next, are the Liyueans!” The voice cheered.

Almost immediately, a woman with white hair and regal clothing stepped forward. “I am Ningguang, Tianquan of the Qixing.” She spoke, her voice equally as dignified as her attire.

“I am Keqing, the Yuheng of the Qixing.” A girl with waist-length purple hair spoke, her voice steady and clear.

“Hello, my name is Ganyu, the Qixing’s secretary.” A young woman with blue hair spoke. Most interestingly, she seemed to house a pair of black and red horns on top of her head. At the extra attention and curious glances she received, she seemed to shy away, stepping back into the crowd.

A woman with a black and blue tinged bob stepped forward nonchalantly. “I’m Yelan, I work for the Ministry of Civil Affairs.” She said, not bothering, or not willing, to specify further.

“‘M Beidou, captain of The Crux fleet. Nice to meet everyone.” A tall woman with an eyepatch stood tall above the rest, her arms crossed, yet her stance was otherwise relaxed.

“My name is Yanfei, the top legal expert in Liyue!” A girl with pale pink hair spoke, her appearance almost normal except for the two antlers that protruded from below her hair. Once more, the other members of the room seemed to regard her with slight interest, but Yanfei paid them no mind as the next person stepped forth.

“I’m the 77th Director of the Wangsheng Funeral Parlor, Hu Tao! Since we’re here, I might as well offer-” A lively girl dressed in funeral attire—apt for her occupation—stood up.

“That’s enough, Director Hu.” A man, somehow even more regal than Ningguang, spoke up. “My name is Zhongli, I am a consultant for the Wangsheng Funeral Parlor.” He said, his voice a low drawl, conveying an essence of authority and respect. Venti raised a brow at this, eyeing him with interest.

“Shenhe.” A girl with white hair and light eyes spoke. Both her aura and tone were cool, while her demeanour was somewhat aloof.

“Gonna elaborate on that?” The Author questioned, but to no avail. Shenhe had already stepped back. “Okay…!” The voice continued awkwardly.

“Adeptus Xiao.” A young man spoke, his voice rough and sharp. He clearly wanted nothing to do with the rest of the group, his arms crossed and muscles pulled taut with apprehension.

“And that’s it for Liyue! Inazuma, take it away!” The Writer announced. One could practically hear a smile in their voice.

At first, nobody could muster up the courage, or perhaps the gall, to start the chain. It seemed tensions were high within this group, as the members looked at each other with varying degrees of wariness or disdain. Suddenly, a tall and buff man clad with red horns stepped forth, making sure to slam his feet down loudly to assure his presence was known.

“Arataki ‘Numero Uno’ Itto, here in the flesh! Also known as, Arataki ‘The One and Oni’ Itto, Arataki ‘The Oni Sumo King’ Itto, Arataki ‘The Pride of Oni’ Itto, Arataki ‘Beetle Gladiator’ Itto, Arataki ‘The Ultimate TCG Champion’ Itto, Arataki ‘He Might-”

“Okay we get it!” Paimon cried out in annoyance, earning a couple of amused snickers in the background, and an interested perk of the head from one Mahamatra at the mention of TCG. Itto looked slightly sheepish, and rubbed the back of his neck in embarrassment.

“She’s right boss…” A much shorter green haired girl appeared from behind him, clad with a black mask and purple snake-like eyes. “I’m Kuki Shinobu, the deputy leader of the Arataki Gang.”

Next, a cheerful blonde haired girl adorned with several different ornaments and smelling of gunpowder stepped forth. “Hi, I’m Yoimiya, from Naganohara Fireworks!” She said, waving to everyone with a bright smile.

Soon after, a young woman who was previously covering her face with a fan, lowered it as she stepped forward. She was certainly elegant, and had a beautiful face as she bowed to the crowd. “Master of Inazuma Kamisato Art Tachi Jutsu — Kamisato Ayaka, present!

I am delighted to make everyone’s acquaintance.” Her dialect was just as pretty as her manners.

“Kamisato Ayato, head of the Kamisato Clan. Likewise, I am delighted to make everyone’s acquaintance.” The elder brother was just as beautiful as his sister, however unlike her, he held a certain calculating gaze, as if he was sizing up every person in the room simultaneously.

“Hello everyone, I’m Thoma, the Kamisato Clan’s head housekeeper.” The blonde-haired man smiled warmly and waved. “I’m actually from Mondstadt, but I moved to Inazuma a while back.” He continued, looking towards the nation’s respective group. A couple of people’s eyes shone with recognition before they all moved on.

“I am Sangonomiya Kokomi, the Divine Priestess of Watatsumi Island.” A young woman spoke. Her eyes were reminiscent of pearls and her smile was kind as she bowed. She looked towards a young man beside her.

“I’m General Gorou of the Watatsumi Island’s resistance!” He said, saluting as if he was reporting for duty. Kokomi giggled beside him along with a few others, which made Gorou’s dog ears flatten once more in embarrassment.

“I am Kaedahara Kazuha, a wandering samurai.” A young man with white and red hair spoke softly. His voice was akin to a soft breeze, perfectly matching the vision which rested on his shoulder.

The calmness of his introduction was then cut short as a young woman with short black hair stepped forward. “Kujou Sara, the general of the Tenryou Commission.” Though her introduction was short, it was said with purpose.

“I am Guuji Yae of the Grand Narukami Shrine, and the Yae Publishing House, but you can also call me Yae Miko should you wish to drop the honorifics.” A woman with pink hair and down-turned fox ears spoke, her voice smooth, but indicative of some slight mischief if her eyes were anything to go by.

Silence broke out after Yae introduced herself, and everyone’s head turned towards the one person who had not yet said anything, save for most of the Inazuman citizens who were pointedly looking away.

“Is she just..” The Author sighed in annoyance. The purple haired woman simply sat in place, eyes closed as if she was in deep meditation. Yae lightly tapped her shoulder, levelling the woman with an unimpressed look.

“Are you going to introduce yourself?” Yae questioned. There was no response. Yae sighed inwardly at the situation. It was like even when she had the Archon right in front of her, she was still sitting in that Plane of Euthymia. “Seeing as our dear Archon does not see the need to introduce herself, I shall proceed for her.”

“This is the Raiden Shogun, the Archon of Inazuma, but you can also call her Raiden Ei, though I wouldn’t suggest it unless you’re close.” She winked at the last part. Most of the rest of the room shifted uncomfortably, shocked at the fact that they were placed in the same room as an Archon, not to mention one that was revered by the entirety of Teyvat for her strength and martial prowess. One boy in particular regarded her with a scowl and a sharp glare, rage simmering within.

“Thank you Miss Yae!” The Author called out, before continuing. “Next are the lovely Sumerians!”

At this, a young man with an ornamental jackal headpiece stepped forward, eyes sharp and serious. “I am Cyno, the General Mahamatra of the Akademiya.”

Next, a young man with large and tall fox ears stepped forward. “I am Tighnari, the Chief Officer of the Avidya Forest Rangers.” He nodded towards the others, before gesturing towards a young green haired girl.

“I-I’m Collei, a trainee Forest Ranger!” She spoke, avoiding eye contact with mostly everyone until…

“Collei?! You’re here too?!” Amber called, practically flying over to her with how fast she moved. Many other Mondstadters’ eyes shone with recognition.

“Ahem…” The Author called out, trying to bring focus back to the matter at hand.

Amber looked back sheepishly. “Haha… Sorry!” The girl said, before turning back to Collei with a promise that they would catch up later.

A tall and strong silver haired young man stepped forward next. His voice was devoid of any discernible emotion, and he spoke plainly. “Al Haitham, the scribe of the Akademiya.”

“Ever the charmer…” A slightly shorter and lean blonde haired man snarked from behind him, Al Haitham pretended to ignore him, and with a roll of his eyes the aforementioned blonde stepped forward. “It’s nice to meet you all, I’m Kaveh, an architect from Sumeru.”

“Don’t they already know where you’re from?” Al Haitham said with a raise of his brow, evidently unimpressed.

“Why- you-“ Kaveh reared around, about to give him an earful before The Author interrupted.

“Ah! No fighting! We haven’t even gotten to the good parts.” They whined, meanwhile the same thought flashed through everybody’s mind, what did they mean by ‘the good parts’?

A young woman stepped up next, her movements fluid and graceful as she waved kindly. “Hello everyone, my name is Nilou. I’m a dancer for the Zubayr Theatre.”

A stylish and strong looking woman stepped forward next, waving an arm that was covered in golden armour plates. “I’m Dehya, a merc from the Eremites.”

At this, a woman took her chance to step forward, her movements also graceful, but laced with purpose, drawing respect from the others in the room as she regarded them with a soft smile. “I am Candace, the guardian and chief of Aaru Village.” Her voice was very comforting, equally as soft as her visage.

There was a brief pause, before a young child spoke up. “Hi everyone! I’m Nahida, I hope we can all get along.” She spoke clearly, but there was an undertone of anxiety, as if she was scared she wouldn’t be accepted by the others.

“And now we have Fontaine!” The star twinkled once more as The Author spoke.

A regal looking man, rivalling Zhongli’s aura, stepped forward, his cane making a slight clicking noise as he moved. “Hello, I am Fontaine’s Chief of Justice, Neuvillette.”

Next, a cheerful and bubbly blonde stepped forward, curtsying as she introduced herself. “Hello everyone, my name is Navia Caspar, the president of the Spina di Rosula!”

The bubbly blonde’s mood was slightly soured as a woman with dark purple hair stepped forward, her heels clicking as she moved. “I am Clorinde, a Champion Duelist.”

Next, a pair of twins stepped forward. Aether’s heart clenched at the sight, the loss of his own twin still fresh. “I’m Lyney, and this is Lynette. We are a pair of magicians.” The boy said, taking off his top hat to bow, as the girl followed suit.

A young boy moved out from behind them at Lyney and Lynette’s insistence. “I-I’m… Freminet. A diver.” He managed awkwardly, uncomfortable with the attention.

“A professional diver at that!” Lyney called, resting a hand on the younger’s shoulder with a proud grin.

“Lyney…” Freminet groaned quietly, his cheeks flush with embarrassment. Lynette looked vaguely amused behind them.

“I’m Wriothesley, the Duke of the Fortress of Meropide.” A tall and rugged looking man spoke. Those who were not from Fontaine and not in high up positions regarded him curiously, wondering what the aforementioned Fortress was.

“Though I need no introduction, my name is Focalors! The God of Justice and Fontaine’s Hydro Archon!” A young woman with blue and white hair spoke loudly and with arrogance, which was only accented by her dramatic movements. Though she was also an Archon, her tone and aura was much less imposing than the Shogun’s and people didn’t feel as compelled to turn away.

“That seems to be it for Fontaine…” The Author concluded cheerfully. There was a brief pause as everyone’s head turned to the five other people who had not yet introduced themselves, two being Aether and Paimon, and three being a mysterious group of three that some seemed to recognize.

“I was kind of hoping that you guys would group up with the others, but fine! Fatui, go!” Those who were previously not aware of the trio’s identities jaws dropped, the room filled with surprise, and wariness.

“Haha, quite the introduction, Author!” A young and handsome ginger haired man spoke first. His smile was joyful and inviting, but his eyes were devoid of both light and life, akin to a raging dark ocean. “I’m number 11 of the Fatui Harbingers! Codename Childe, but I also go by Tartaglia!” He said, bowing with a flourish.

At this, Diluc suppressed a growl, his eyes narrowed. He seemed poised to attack before The Author’s voice interrupted. “Hey now, stop it! I already removed everyone’s abilities and weapons anyway, so pipe down.” Diluc continued to simmer with lightly veiled rage, but reined in his emotions anyway.

A shorter man stepped forward next, his face both youthful and beautiful, devoid of flaws and completely smooth, almost porcelain like. “Scaramouche, The Balladeer. Number 6 of the Fatui Harbingers.” He said with a sneer. A scowl seemed to be permanently placed on his face, and he didn’t seem to be in the mood for chatting with anyone.

Last, a tall woman with black and white hair and X shaped pupils stepped forward. “My name is Arlecchino, the Knave. I am the head of the House of Hearth, and number 4 of the Fatui Harbingers.” Lyney, Lynette, and Freminet regarded her with solemn respect, unlike almost everyone else who was still wary.

“Thank you for that! Now, last but definitely not least….” The Author spoke, trying to build up the excitement. Aether fidgeted for a moment as the whole group’s attention shifted towards him and Paimon.

“Hi everyone. I’m Aether, a traveler from afar.” He said with a small smile, waving hesitantly. Paimon floated beside him, waving much more enthusiastically.

“And I’m Paimon, his companion and-“ Paimon exclaimed, but was cut off.

“Emergency food,” Aether said, deadpan. Paimon leveled him with an unimpressed look, ready to spring a barrage of insults before she was cut off once more by the voice of the Author.

“And that’s it! Now that we have all the players, let me set some ground rules.” They started.

“No fighting, physically at least! I already took away your abilities as I’m sure you noticed, and as I’ve already said before. Debates and the like are fine, but don’t go too far with them.” The Author continued.

“I’m available for any questions you may have, or clarification if you need, but I reserve the right to not answer, especially if it’s something that you’ll get an answer to later!” Their disembodied voice continued to explain.

“Additionally, time in Teyvat is currently paused. Which means when you return, you’ll return to the moment in which you left and no time will have passed.”

“Last, food, drinks, and any sanitary services are available. You can leave at any time to use these services, but I won’t stop for you! So leave at your own risk. Breaks will happen as I see fit, or whenever the majority wishes.”

“That should be it. Comments, questions, concerns?” The voice asked.

“Yeah, why exactly are you doing this?” Yelan spoke first, her hand on her hip.

“Why, that’s simple! I wanna see what you guys will do!” The Author exclaimed while everyone murmured amongst themselves.

“Okay, if there’s nothing else, take your seats! The show’s about to begin! Remember if you need me, I’m only a call away!” The Author called, and the screen at the front of the room seemed to light up, much to most of the crowd’s awe.

Everyone took their seats quickly, and the show began, as the bright star that had descended previously faded away.

"We had no time to say goodbye, so let's not call it that."

“Aether?!” Paimon gaped, rearing in shock as she heard her friend's voice from the screen. Others turned to glance at the Traveler as well. Aether could not speak, too shocked to formulate a response.

A beautiful deep blue sky is shown, clouds and stars filling it as the golden glow of a sunrise lights it up, creating a beautiful image. Two identical shooting stars fly through the sky, blazing through.

"It’s beautiful," Mona exclaimed, her eyes wide with wonder, not unlike many of the other residents of the room.

"The war has already begun," a man with a deep voice started. "It is just a continuation of past battles."

Everyone looked confused, not recognizing this man’s voice for one, nor his words.

Unnoticed, Venti’s eyes hardened slightly, his head tilting downwards as he heard this. Zhongli in turn felt his body stiffen, his expression unreadable. They knew what past battles the man was referring to, and briefly wondered just how much would be shown in this screening.

Ei regarded the screen with vague interest, her fist clenching as she thought about the words. This only further steeled her resolve. Eternity was the only way to avoid ruin. Nahida on the other hand was stricken. How could she help her people through such a war if she couldn’t help herself?

Neuvillette felt himself grow weary at the mention of a war, and he spared a thought for his ancestors, who had fought and lost the war against the eternal throne of the Heavens. He spared a glance at Furina. Her expression was unreadable, and she looked slightly bored if anything.

The scene of the sky switched to a sea of sparkling flowers, white and gold in color, and planted firmly in the ground of a galaxy-coloured floor. "The gods goad us on with the promise of their seven treasures. Rewards for the worthy. The doorway to divinity."

At this, everyone grew only more confused.

“Seven treasures?” Yanfei questioned thoughtfully, her hand raising to her chin.

“Perhaps in reference to our visions and the elements?” Tighnari replied with a small flick of his ear.

Diluc shifted uncomfortably at the mention of the worthy. Had his father not been worthy?

Scaramouche wondered about the doorway to divinity. What made the divine, divine? Was it their gnosis? He knew that those with visions were considered allogenes with the potential to ascend to divinity, but why, and how? Why not me? He thought, his fist clenching.

Unbeknownst to him, Albedo was wondering something similar. He briefly wished for a notepad. He had his sketchbook but preferred to save that for sketches instead. Suddenly, a notepad appeared on the table in front of him. He felt shocked for a moment, before opening it to start writing. Several of the other scholars in the room noticed, and caught on quickly, summoning their own notebooks and pens.

"Yet buried in the depths of this world lies smoldering remains, a warning to those that dare trespass."

Kaeya shifted almost imperceptibly, but otherwise, remained unaffected. Deep down, he knew what this man meant.

The scene changes once more; standing amidst the flowers are a pair of twins, with the deep blue sparkling sky behind them. They hold hands with one another, fitting right in with the atmosphere of the scenery like it was their home.

Aether’s eyes widened, and he leaned forward, jostling Paimon on his lap. “Lumine!” He breathed, his eyes widening with sorrow.

The people in the room clued in, looking over at Aether once more. They noted the similarities between the two, as well as the boy’s sadness.

“Is that your sister?” Amber questioned from beside Aether.

“I- yeah… We got… Separated.” He said solemnly.

Amber’s eyes were saddened. “I’m sorry, I know how it feels to lose family.” She said softly. A beat passed before she spoke once more. “Once we’re out of here I’ll help you look for her.”

Aether smiled sadly at this, nodding in gratitude.

"That throne in the sky is not reserved for you," the man said as if he was quoting someone. "But mortal arrogation never stops. None will escape the flames."

Aether flinched as he heard the mention of mortal arrogation, reminded of the god who had so cruelly separated him and his sister.

“Arrogation? Who does this man think he is?” Keqing asked, her arms crossed. She hated the implication that human advancement was akin to forsaking the gods. The truth was, that humanity didn’t need them as much anymore.

The archons in the room stiffened once more, reminded of Celestia’s cruel tendencies for so-called, ‘mortal arrogation.’

Al Haitham wrote down his observations in his notebook as he spoke. “He seemed to be quoting someone. I have no doubt we’ll see who soon enough.”

" See for yourself. The scene faded out into complete darkness before a glowing text lit up the screen.

ACT.PROLOGUE

The Outlander Who Caught the Wind

Mea libertas meus canor

There was a flash of the Anemo symbol in the background, before the words ACT.PROLOGUE changed into 'Mondstadt.'

“Um, what does that say? I can’t read it from here.” Collei questioned, both her reading ability and proximity to the screen making her unable to see the words.

Lisa read the small Teyvatian text for the girl, "My freedom is my song."

“Thank you, Miss Lisa.” Collei replied shyly. Lisa simply winked at the young girl. Oh, how sweet it was to see the girl all grown up from before.

Jean and the other Mondstadters smiled at the words, proud of her nation’s decree of freedom.

Venti glanced over his children with a small smile. He loved his song of freedom and his people. May it never end. He thought.

"The dragon who defended Mondstadt for a millennium finally faces his perturbation." The man spoke. The black background changes, the camera panning out as fire flashes to reveal a man, with hair and eyes as red and fierce as the flame. He brandishes his sword, and the aforementioned fire circles around him, the shape of a phoenix forming behind him and highlighting his determined gaze.

Various gasps of awe resound throughout the room at the display. Itto and Fischl in particular seemed completely blown away.

“So… cool!” He exclaims, practically squealing. Shinobu raises her brow at the man.

Fischl on the other hand, was more reserved about her astonishment, though her eyes were wide with wonder. She cast a glance towards the man. Perhaps she should try to emulate his mannerisms? If she could appear as cool and collected as he did, it would be well worth it.

“Looks like you’re representing Mondstadt, Master Diluc,” Kaeya smirks, his tone teasing. In truth, he felt somewhat melancholic and bitter at seeing his brother(?) on the screen. Many things have changed, but at least his determination to protect Mondstadt hasn’t.

Diluc tries to hide his slight blush, clearing his throat and pointedly staring towards the screen to mask his embarrassment at the attention. He wasn’t sure what to make of the situation.

"What does freedom really mean, when demanded of you by a god?"

Venti’s eyes saddened slightly. His poor child Dvalin, he didn’t deserve this.

Some people took the time to think about this.

“Is it really freedom if it’s forced upon you?” Kaveh mused, humming thoughtfully.

“I guess that’s why Barbatos doesn’t rule over his nation. He left the choice up to the people.” Navia said.

Venti did not regret his choice. His people had already been through many authoritarian rules, and they didn’t need him to guide them. As long as he was there during their time of need, all would be well.

“More like he abandoned them.” Scaramouche snorted. Several of the Mondstadters turned to defend their god, but the next scene started up again.

ACT.I

Farewell, Archaic Lord

Ruat caelum fiat pactum

This time, Ganyu spoke. "Let the contract be made, though the heavens fall." The room exploded into murmurs. Even those closest to Celestia were slightly perturbed by the words.

“What contract?” Beidou questioned, her brows furrowed and her arms crossed.

Just as with Mondstadt, there was a momentary flash of the Geo symbol behind the words before ACT.I changed into 'Liyue'.

"The God of Contracts, senselessly slaughtered as his people watch on in horror."

The entire room gasped collectively, but the Liyueans were especially (and evidently) distraught. The words of the man sent the room into a frenzy.

“What is this blasphemous nonsense! Whoever spouted such lies will meet their end.” Xiao snarled with such ferocity that many of the other people within the room flinched back.

Ganyu looked caught between horror and disbelief. “Rex Lapis…?” She breathed, shell-shocked.

“Settle down, all will be answered in due time.” The voice of The Author called before the room could act up too much.

Ningguang sat very still. If this was true, many preparations needed to be made in the coming days following her return to Teyvat.

Hu Tao closed her eyes, a silent prayer on her lips in respect for the late Archon. Death was an inescapable part of life after all, even for Archons. She would have to begin the Funeral Rite soon.

Zhongli’s face tightened, but otherwise, he didn’t move. He had been on the fence for a while about his decision, but it seems his future self went through with it. He let out a small breath, pointedly ignoring Venti’s stare.

The pitch-black scene changes into the shape of a gloved hand, outlined by a golden glow. The scene pans out to reveal an elegantly dressed woman floating in front of a golden screen. Her blonde hair flowed carefully behind her, as she reached out a hand to control three gold gemstones, sending them forward.

Though Ningguang looked divine, many could not process it in light of the simply unbelievable news that had been practically dropped on them like a bombshell.

Yelan knew she had some loose ends to tie up when she got back. If Rex Lapis were to be killed, a power vacuum would open, one that the Qixing would be unable to fill should she leave any stragglers unattended.

"In the end, he will sign the contract to end all contracts."

It just didn’t make sense. How could the eldest Archon, sometimes known as the Warrior God, be killed? Ei wondered, her resolve only seeming to grow stronger at this notion.

Keqing felt conflicted. On one hand, she had always wished for the age of mankind where they no longer clung so tightly to their Archon for guidance, but on the other hand, she had never wished for the death of her god, especially one that she so revered.

Yanfei knew this would usher in a new era of Liyue, for better or for worse. She wondered what this mysterious contract was, her curiosity drawn to it, among other things. In the end, her questions were voiced, as Clorinde spoke.

“Is that the contract they were referencing earlier?” The duelist wondered, with a tilt of her head.

“But what kind of contract could end all contracts anyway?” Dehya replied, her face scrunched up in confusion.

ACT.II

Omnipresence Over Mortals

Perpetua perennis impervia

"Perpetual, perennial, impervious," Sara read with a proud and determined voice. Though many other Inazumans disagreed with the Shogun’s approach to eternity, Sara would continue to serve her leader with pride and faith, even at the cost of her own life. She sat straighter after taking a look at her Archon.

The rest of the Inazumans were solemn, their gazes fixed on the screen.

Another small flash of an elemental symbol, this time Electro, appeared in the background as ACT.II changed into 'Inazuma'.

"In the secluded land of the immortal Shogun, the Bakufu rules eternal."

Kokomi’s soft eyes narrowed. They had suffered under her rule for far too long. It didn’t just stop at the Vision Hunt Decree either. Things were going to change if she had anything to do with it.

Gorou watched as her eyes lit up with determination, his own expression reflecting much of the same. He sincerely hoped that this screening would be helpful, not just for the resistance, but for the people of Watatsumi, and the land that sustained them.

The opening of an ornamental fan cuts through the black screen, cryo energy flying off of it. The fan moved sideways to briefly reveal a face with silver eyes, before the hand raised up, moving the fan upwards and leaving behind a trail of cryo energy. A young woman holds her fan up elegantly, her pose graceful and her posture proper with her long blue hair flowing behind her. Her picture-perfect appearance was only highlighted by the cryo energy that shone beside her.

Ayato’s tightened expression softened at this, and he turned to his younger sister. “You look wonderful Ayaka.” He praised.

Ayaka flushed but nodded in gratitude. “Thank you onii-sama.”

Thoma turned to her as well with a warm smile. “You look flawless, as usual, milady.”

Ayaka covered her face with her fan, trying to hide her blush as she was complimented once more. “Thank you, Thoma.”

Shinobu cast a glance at the three, thinking about her own family. Though she may not have been on the best of terms with her parents, she still had her sister, and the Arataki Gang, who were much like her family in their own right. She looked back towards Itto, a small smile under her mask.

"But what do mortals see of the eternity chased after by their god?"

The Inazumans were silent. They didn’t dare share their thoughts in the face of the god herself.

Yoimiya looked down into her lap for a moment. In her opinion, the only eternal thing was change itself. The transience of life was the only thing that stayed the same. Though life may be transitory in nature, like her fireworks, that’s what made life fun and worth living, at least in her opinion.

Kazuha’s fist clenched for a moment, and he looked stricken. Beidou looked at him sideways with a sympathetic expression. She patted him on the back to comfort him, and the young man looked up at her with a nod. She didn’t know the full story of what he went through, just that it was a lot, and it was because of his Archon’s ideal of eternity. She felt slight disdain towards the Shogun as such, a frown casting across her face.

Yae looked over at her dear friend, whose eyes were closed while she sat very still as if she was still meditating in her plane. The kitsune frowned, desperately hoping that this experience would help her see reason as she turned back towards the screen.

The Shogun sat quietly, her silence louder than words as she kept her eyes closed, shutting out the world around her as she focused on her ideals. Perhaps she was hurting them now, but they would all understand in due time. Eternity was the only way to keep them all safe from the inevitable erosion of the world.

Scaramouche scoffed at this, crossing in arms as he rolled his eyes. Did his creator even care about anything? He doubted it. If she didn’t care about her own creation, her own son , why would she care about the nation she ruled over? Not that he exactly cared about the people of Inazuma, but perhaps if he had been given what he was owed, then things would have ended up differently, for both him and the nation. It was no matter, perhaps this viewing would help him come up with something to gain his birthright, the gnosis. Now that would be interesting.

ACT.III

Truth Amongst the Pages of Purana

Sub floreis lumen sagacitatis

Continuing with the trend of translating the small Teyvatian text, Al Haitham spoke, "Under the flowers, the light of wisdom."

Tighnari snorted at this. "Speaking from witnessing it firsthand, not every scholar from the forest is very wise, if you will.” He said, his ear flicking in annoyance. He has had to save one too many scholars from getting hurt within the forest, one way or another. It made him wonder just how they even got into the Akademiya in the first place.

At this, many Sumerians and others laughed, in agreement with the fox hybrid’s statement.

The words ACT.III changed into 'Sumeru' as a brief flash of the Dendro symbol was seen behind.

"The God of Wisdom's enemy is wisdom itself, and the oasis of knowledge is a mirage in the desert of ignorance."

Nahida shrunk back at this, her eyes lowering in shame. What else was she to do? She felt as hopeless here as she did in the Sanctuary of Surasthana.

“Hm, it sounds like this could be in reference to the Akademiya’s relationship with the desert-dwellers.” Candace mused, her heterochromatic eyes twinkling thoughtfully.

At the other’s questioning glances, Dehya continued. “Us desert-dwellers aren’t really treated the best by the Akademiya. A lot of the time we’re cast to the side. Unfair as it is, only people who are ambitious and talented enough are able to rise to the top of the system.”

“But the enemy of the god of wisdom being wisdom itself? What on Teyvat could that mean?” Kaveh said with a frown.

Al Haitham stopped writing for a moment. He spared a glance towards Cyno, finding that the general was glancing back at him as well. Both knew what the answer was, being privy to certain knowledge behind the scenes virtue of their respective positions. Neither one replied to Kaveh’s question, but they both knew the God of Wisdom’s true enemy was her own people, her own sages of Wisdom.

A wave of sand covers the camera, revealing a young man with fierce red eyes, riding the sand as if he was poised to attack, his polearm held behind him. The ornaments and flaps of clothing floated around him, and he lowered his head, causing his jackal shaped helmet to cover part of his face, creating an intimidating and imposing image.

Collei’s eyes widened. She was so used to the Cyno that constantly cracked bad jokes and was overly obsessed with TCG, that she often forgot how intimidating he truly could be at times. She looked over at said man, trying to gauge his reaction. His arms were crossed, and his face was impassive, but his brows were furrowed. She wondered if he was angry or confused.

Lisa looked over to Cyno. “My, you can be quite the scary guy sometimes can’t you, cutie?” She said with a wide and proud smile. She had seen the young man grow up during her time in the Akademiya and was proud to see how far he had gotten.

At this, Cyno’s resolve cracked, and he looked away in embarrassment. Tighnari’s lips quirked in amusement. “I think that’s the first time I’ve seen you so flustered.” He said.

"In the city of scholars there is a push for folly, yet the God of Wisdom makes no argument against it."

Nilou was and has been a devout believer of Lesser Lord Kusanali, but she couldn’t figure out why the god never pushed against the Akademiya’s policies. They actively pushed back against the arts, against the people of the desert. Those who preferred a different approach to wisdom, like her, were rejected. Surely, the Archon could see how such things were detrimental, foolish even? So then why would her Archon make no argument against such a thing?

Nahida’s lips turned downwards. Has she not been trying hard enough? What more could she do when her people refused to accept her as she was? She just needed more time to catch up to her predecessor, perhaps this screening would show her how. At least, that’s what she hoped.

ACT.IV

Masquerade of the Guilty

Iustitia omnia vincit

"Justice conquers all," Clorinde spoke, her hand raising to her chin as she sat in thought.

Furina laughed cheerfully, straightening herself proudly as she crossed her legs. “Well, isn’t that obvious?” She said, with a dramatic flick of her wrist.

Just as with the other nations, there was a brief flash of the Hydro symbol, before ACT.IV changed into 'Fontaine'.

"The God of Justice lives for the spectacle of the courtroom, seeking to judge all other gods." The dark scene changes into a spotlight, shining on a winking face before moving to another face with a comparatively more impassive expression. The camera pans down to their hands, which lightly fall to one another’s, before zooming out to reveal them fully. They steal the show as they dance across stage, their matching outfits complimenting each other perfectly, though the shadows they cast hint at something perhaps more sinister lying underneath.

"But even she knows not to make an enemy of the divine."

Lyney let out a small noise of delight, turning to Lynette and Freminet. “Look, it’s us!” He exclaimed with a wide smile.

Freminet smiled at him, excited for his two siblings. “You guys look great up there.” He said softly. Even Lynette had a ghost of a smile on her lips.

Arlecchino hummed thoughtfully at this, half proud of her children, but also curious at the meaning of the words shown in the scene. She cast a glance at Furina, who was noticeably quiet compared to earlier, before turning to her three children of the Hearth. “Well done, children.” She said, her gaze unreadable, despite there being a small smile on her lips.

“Thank you, Father.” The twins replied with a respectful dip of their heads. Before anything, they were still loyal soldiers of the Hearth.

While some looked towards the four in confusion, others were more concerned at Fontaine’s description.

Navia knew all too well about the so-called spectacle of the courtroom. Though she adored her country for all its faults, she would never forgive her nation’s terribly flawed justice system for how it had handled her Father’s case. Her fist clenched, but she reined in her emotions, opting to focus on the screen and the things she could actually change.

Wriothesley regarded the screen with interest. He had his sources above ground, sure, but it was nothing like actually being there to experience the go-ons of Fontaine’s daily life. Perhaps this experience would prove to be a worthwhile one yet.

Zhongli’s face was imperceptible. She would be wise not to make an enemy of the divine , he thought, looking over to the younger Archon.

Neuvillette, sat beside Furina was in turn regarding his Archon curiously. Despite working in tandem for many a year now, he couldn’t say he knew much of her true intentions or plans. At times, it seemed like she didn’t really have a plan. Whenever he questioned her on this, she would simply change the conversation, dancing around the topic was her expertise.

Furina, to her credit, maintained her expression of nonchalance, despite the stares she was receiving, and the internal panic she was currently going through. She had gotten so far now, and she would continue this masquerade, this ruse, until the very end, even if it killed her, even if it lost her everything. “Oh, come on now? Surely you fine people aren’t surprised? I am the God of Justice after all!” She said, her tone laced with the classic arrogance and flourish that she was known for. Before anyone could reply, the scene changed once more, capturing everyone’s attention, and thankfully for Furina, giving her a pause of momentary respite.

ACT.V

Incandescent Ode of Resurrection

Surge vir fortis i natam victoriam

“Rise, O Strong man, and go to your destined victory,” Zhongli spoke, filling in for the absence of those from Natlan.

Following the trend, there was a momentary flare of the Pyro symbol, as ACT.V changed into 'Natlan'.

"The rules of war are woven in the womb: the victors shall burn bright, while the losers must turn to ash."

“A little harsh…” Amber muttered, shifting in her spot uncomfortably.

“Harsh, but that’s the reality of things.” Childe returned. As a warrior, he knew all too well the realities of battle. One small slip-up was all that it would take for the loser to be declared, for the loser to turn to ash.

The darkness of the scene is lit up as a foot crashes into the ground mercilessly, breaking the rock underneath and sending out a shockwave that reveals the barely hidden lava underground. The flame rises with the camera, revealing a young girl with dark skin and white hair, her face tightened in effort as she clenches her fist, causing the scene behind her to erupt in flames. A mischievous grin splits across her face, the scene slowly fading to ash behind the young victor.

"When the God of War shares this secret with the Traveler, it is because she has her reasons."

Many of the room’s residents jumped slightly at the scene, both awed and wary.

Yoimiya tilted her head curiously. “How come there aren’t any Natlanians here yet?” She asked, looking around the room in confusion.

Several of the others agreed, murmuring amongst themselves. Paimon took the opportunity to wave her arms about, gesturing towards the ceiling. “Um, Author person! We have a question!” She called.

“Yes, yes. I heard you all, don’t worry.” They said, their tone placating. “The reason they haven’t been added is because they’re not fully out yet.” The Writer explained.

This did nothing to quell the room’s confusion. Al Haitham crossed his arms, looking even more unimpressed than he normally did. “That was the most unhelpful answer.” He bluntly stated.

“That was quite rude.” The Author returned, their tone indignant. “I can’t really explain it quite as well as I would like to, but I guess the best way I can put it is that their stories are not quite finished. All will be revealed in due time, so be patient!” They continued, repeating their previous rhetoric. Though the rest of the room still had questions, The Author did not reply, allowing the screen to do the talking.

Aether, on the other hand, had lapsed into silence, thinking on the words of the video. What secret would she share with him, and why? He supposed only time would tell, but it didn’t stop his curiosity from growing.

Ei regarded the screen with interest. Natlan was definitely an outlier when it came to the case of Archons, as they were all human. Though she knew that it was not impossible for humans to ascend to godhood, it definitely wasn’t common. Not only that, but the humans retained their normal lifespan, which meant that they switched archons fairly often. Such transience disconcerted her, and she would ensure that Inazuma would never have to go through such changes, as long as she could help it.

ACT.VI

Everwinter Without Mercy

Ducam regina mea gloria haud pluribus impar

"I, nigh unmatched Queen by my glory, shall be guide.” Childe recited, his voice proud and boasting.

Scaramouche rolled his eyes at the ginger’s behavior but otherwise, did not react, opting to simply watch with the displeased expression he had been wearing ever since he had been transported here.

There was a flash of the Cryo symbol in the background, as ACT.VI changed into 'Snezhnaya'.

"She is a god with no love left for her people, nor do they have any left for her."

Arlecchino hummed quietly at this, her nails tapping rhythmically on her thigh as she took in these words. It was quite an interesting statement. She had always seen the Tsaritsa as a person with a lot of warmth, compassion, and sincerity, however, her land was the exact opposite, and perhaps this is why those words weren’t exactly the most surprising. Though she held respect for the god, should she one day end up on the opposite side, she wouldn’t hesitate to raise her blade.

The darkness parts, but the cold remains as a scene of Fatui members, encircled by spiky icicles, stand around a figure seated on a throne, the stained glass window behind them highlighting the scene. The figure’s face is shrouded by both mystery and shadows, and the camera zooms in, highlighting the ominous nature of the crowd.

While many of the room's members seemed to be in varying states of curiosity and confusion at the character’s hidden identity, the Harbingers in the room’s eyes flickered in recognition.

“Pulcinella? Hm, I guess that’s not too surprising.” Childe said, with a shrug.

“Who’s Pulcinella?” Yoimiya questioned, not at all perturbed by the scene before her.

“The Rooster, fifth out of the Harbingers.” The ginger explained. Nearby him, Arlecchino’s eyes sharpened. She wasn’t exactly a fan of the Mayor, and she had a feeling that the sentiment was mutual.

"Her followers hope only to be on her side when the day of her rebellion against the divine comes at last."

This most caught the room’s attention, driving everyone into hushed conversations, and pointed stares at the Harbingers in the room.

Diluc in particular bristled at this, his fist clenching and unclenching in quiet fury. Of course, they were up to something drastic, why wouldn’t they be? He scoffed, looking off to the side as he tried to calm down.

Venti watched the screen with a hint of melancholy for his old friend. He wanted to have faith that she wouldn’t make a grave mistake and that her plans would come to fruition, but he sincerely hoped that she wouldn’t lose all her compassion and warmth for the sake of her goals.

The scene then changed to one of a seemingly endless blue galaxy, with a bright star shining in the distance.

"In the perpetual meantime of a sheltered eternity, most are content to live, and not to dream."

The audience perked up at the change of scenery, listening intently to the man’s words, trying to make sense of it.

The camera slowly zoomed in towards a distant, flickering star of some sort, before its light shone brightly, overtaking the screen in a flash of white. "But in the hidden corners where the gods' gaze does not fall, there are those who dream of dreaming."

At the man’s words, Kaeya stilled. His expression was unreadable, and though his posture was slightly stiffer than usual, there was no noticeable indicator that this affected him in any way. He was once again reminded of that night, many, many years ago.

“This is where you must stay; you are our only hope. Forgive me, Kaeya.” Kaeya quickly nipped that train of thought in the bud, focusing his attention on the screen before him. He couldn’t afford to be so affected, not in such a situation with so many unknown variables.

ACT.???

The Dream Yet to Be Dreamed

ACT.??? changes into the title of 'Khaenri'ah', the background still retaining the bright white from before. Unlike the other nations, there was no text underneath, nor the flash of an elemental symbol in the background.

The audience barely had time to process the difference, as the man quickly began talking once more.

"Some say a few are chosen and the rest are dregs, but I say we humans have our humanity." The white haze fades, revealing a blonde man with bright blue eyes, and a strange star-shaped pupil. His left-hand curls into a fist, his expression taut before he turns his determined gaze toward the camera.

The scholars in the room dissolve into murmurs, writing things down with apt concentration.

Everyone else in the room was just as captivated, though perhaps some residents seemed wearier than others.

“His eyes are so cool-looking!” Itto says, earning a couple of noises of agreement around the room.

At this, Diluc’s gaze subtly flits over to Kaeya, silently noting the similarity between the two, particularly their eyes. Had he not been faced with the truth of Kaeya’s heritage, before this, it’s likely he would have never noticed the similarity.

"We will defy this world with a power from beyond." The man raises his fist in a sharp movement, swinging his arm behind him as a dark blue mist shakes the screen, the camera now pans out to show more of this strange man, and his unusual attire.

Zhongli’s gaze hardens imperceptibly. Nothing good came from that sort of power, it only served to take and destroy. Though he hadn’t agreed (and didn’t want to go through) with Celestia’s solution, he knew that Khaenri’ah had gone too far, poked and prodded at places they shouldn’t. The fabric of this land was fragile enough as it was.

The rest of the room marvels at this display, with varying degrees of astonishment.

“Power from beyond? Could that be the power he seems to be wielding?” Tighnari asks nobody in particular, his hand raised to his chin in thought.

“I mean, it doesn’t look like any elemental energy I’ve ever seen,” Dehya responds, her brows furrowed in confusion. The rest of the group agrees, with some noting this down as a point of interest.

Paimon doesn’t say a word throughout all this, uncharacteristically silent. It goes unnoticed, as everyone is too busy focusing on the screen before them.

"Now, you who has set foot in this world." The scene zooms in quickly as the screen fades back to white momentarily, before revealing a sea of flowers, much like the ones from the beginning. "Your journey has come to an end, but one final doorway remains."

Aether perks up slightly at this, his eyes searching the screen for answers as he leans forward slightly in anticipation, almost jostling Paimon again, who is still sitting on his lap.

Could this really help him find answers about his missing twin? He surely hoped so.

"Step forth, if you have understood the meaning of your journey." The screen turns white again for a moment, before revealing Aether’s form, now standing alone in the field of flowers before a brilliant sunset which paints both him and the flowers beneath in a warm glow. "Defeat me, command me to step aside, show me that you are worthier than I to rescue her." Aether’s hand was still outstretched, and his gaze was downturned, as if he was still waiting for someone, someone who would not show up.

Aether’s expression fell, his somber gaze reflecting that of the version of him on-screen. He missed his sister, his other half, dearly, that was for sure. He shifted his thoughts towards the strange man’s words, but it only served to worry him further. What did he mean about rescuing her? Was she in some kind of danger? But then why wouldn’t he be worthy of rescuing her? He hoped he would get some answers soon because instead of getting any sort of answers, he was only receiving more questions.

Amber glanced toward him once more, the sympathy in her gaze barely masked as she rested a reassuring hand on his shoulder, offering him a small smile. She may not have known him for that long, but she could empathize with his situation.

"Then, the threads of all fate will be yours to re-weave."

Venti’s expression turned thoughtful, his gaze becoming slightly distant as he seemed to mull something over.

The scene panned in before craning up to the sky, which was accompanied by a shower of petals, gently floating away and fading into sparks, before those too, faded, as the scene was bathed in darkness once more.

"My memory has all but faded completely... But I will always remember how much she too, loved these flowers."

A dull, yet familiar pain bloomed in Aether’s chest. So did I. He thought, reminded once more of his lost sibling, and even more of his lost homeland. Once upon a time, he had wanted to find a place in the world where those flowers bloomed, but now, that goal was almost all but forgotten.

The rest of the room was silent, contemplating the events that had been shown on screen. Nobody, not even the most audacious of the group, dared to break the silence that had fallen over them. This continued until The Author’s voice cut through, their voice both clear and calm, though it was paradoxically accented with a hint of anticipation. “Is everyone ready? If there are no objections, the screening of the Traveler’s journey will begin in a few moments. Please, take the time to prepare yourselves and reflect. Should you need anything, I’ll only be a call away.”

With that, The Author was silent once more, and after a small blink of light, an array of snacks and drinks appeared on the tables before them, along with notepads and other stationery for those who had not already possessed them.

The members of the room took the chance to look over the contents that had appeared on the table, while several others took to speaking with each other in hushed whispers.

Aether glanced down at Paimon, who was happily busying herself with the food that had appeared. The Traveler could only deliberate on the things he had seen with a troubled expression.

Just what did I get myself into?
