93 years before the Declaration of Independance was signed , a small group of people fled England to come to the New world for freedom. These Quakers came on the Ketch "Endeavor" arriving in the Delaware river on September 29 ,1683 from Chester England.Among those was Thomas Massey age 22 indentured to Francis Stanfield who provided transport for 8 people. It is believed that Massey came from Nantwick, near Marpool, in Cheshire. After Thomas completed his indenture he got 50 acres from his master and 50 acres from William Penn. Also on the ship was a 13 year old girl named Phebe Taylor and her family. Thomas Massey Married Phebe in 1692 when he was 29 and she was 22. By 1696 Thomas was able to buy 300 acres and establish the plantation in Marple township. He built a fine brick house and had 7 children. Dying in 1707. After being a widow for two years Phebe married Bartholomew Coppock a widower with 2 children.JAT 6/24/2008

She and Henry Lewis sold a lot to Henry Camm that they had received from the will of Thomas Massey is March 1707/1708. In other words, she was the widow of Thomas Massy before she married Bartholomew. Her second husband, Bartholomew, was a witness to the deed. (C-2137) She died on 27d, 12m, 1749/50. 1
